Psychological Counselling & Mindfulness

Psychological Counselling

Counselling is also known as talk therapy. It  consists of a single conversation or a series of conversations, taking place between a psychologist and his/her client, mainly  treatments used for the enhancement of mental health.

Counselling is a specific kind of therapeutic approach, which will help an individual to overcome wrong thoughts,  unnecessary emotions and behavioural patterns. The main objective of counselling is to make the client expose their distressing issues to a professional who has a deep knowledge about the human mind so that the client receives support  in order to perform day to day activities in a normal and effective  manner.

Yogic Counselling is an integrated approach to counselling using the basic principles of Yoga philosophy blended with modern psychological concepts to make the client aware of the possible disconnects in his/her thinking, emotions and behaviours, and support the process of  – deeper connection and self-awareness in them through a series of sessions.

Mindfulness

“Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally, in the service of self-understanding and wisdom.” says  Jon Kabat-Zinn.

Mindfulness is a meditation practice developed based on Zen Buddhism and trains one to be aware of oneself. This usually is done by being aware of one’s breath. The awareness also makes us realize the oneness within ourselves and outside ourselves and we experience liberation from anxiety, fear and eventually one develops a ‘non discriminatory mind’.

According to Thích Nhất Hạnh, Vietnamese Buddhist Monk ‘ Meditation should not be an escape from reality. On the contrary, it should lead to an increased awareness of reality.’

Scientific research has shown that Mindfulness based Therapies improve psychological well being there by enhancing the functions of the body, reducing stress, anxiety, fear, fatigue, depression etc and improve overall well being.
